The Perfect Man for an Even More Perfect Ending to Glastonbury
With a career spanning half a Century, yes he’s really been active for that long for those who’s musical tastes don’t go beyond that millennial ageOne of the marvels of Glastonbury is that there’s no age rating for the music, you can be any age to enjoy the artists. You can be 60 and enjoy Lizzo and Lewis Capaldi or be 13 and like Elton John Friday saw Arctic Monkeys, yesterday was Guns and Roses and today saw music legend Elton John close the festival. For Elton it’ll be an even more special gig as he officially announced that he will be taking an indefinite break from music. Like many I hope he’s just referring to performing.True to form he started his set with the glitz and glam before getting the show started. Now something that you clearly can’t deny is that Elton definitely knows how to pull off a spectacular show of truly incredible proportions. As the night went on he treated the crowd to an entire array of his hit songs such as Pinball Wizard, Bennie and the Jetts, Daniel, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Are You Ready for Love, Sad Songs (Say so Much), Your Song, Candle in the Wind (Norma Jean tribute version), I’m Still Standing, Cold Heart Towards the end he did a tribute to the late George Michael – Don’t Let The Sun go Down on Me. Apparently he’d have been 60 this year.True to form he had special guests to join him onstage; American artists Stephen Sanchez for Until I Found You and Killers frontman Brandon Flowers for Tiny Dancer and British/Japanese singer and friend Rina Sawayama to duet on Don’t Go Breaking My HeartWhether you are a fan of him and his music or not, for once it genuinely doesn’t matter. Armed with just a piano, his voice and backing band, he has the power to do anything onstage. For tonight all that actually mattered was a truly amazing gig, and that’s exactly what we got
Their First Time at Glastonbury and They Did Something Truly Epic
They’ve been rocking for nearly 40 years now (yes that long) and I’m happy to say that they haven’t lost their touch after three decades.Tonight they made their official debut tonight at Glastonbury Festival, and seriously, they practically owned the stage. As a frontman Axel Rose just knows how to get the crowds going. And ever infamous guitarist, Slash, well he could just stand there at the edge of the stage doing 30 minute guitar solos and he could still steal the show. For anyone who’s heard his solos (November Rain) you’ll know what I’m on about. As a Guns & Roses fan I absolutely loved this set and I can safely say that they smashed with both new and classic hits like Reckless Life, TV Eye, Down on the Farm, Rocket Queen, Absurd to name but a few including the ever infamous Sweet Child of Mine and November Rain. We genuinely saw something incredible tonight. Really enjoyed the Live and Let Die and Knocking on Heavens Door covers, completely upped the bass guitar antics on those I loved it, the band themselves clearly in their element and storming it. Even the crowds loved it to the point of waving, Come back again guys, you were absolutely AWESOME
Why Tonight’s Glasto Performance Reminds us of Their Greatness
Through they aren’t the official headliners American rock group Foo Fighters always know how to put on a great show. Indeed why not everyone knows they do. We do, as do the fans, die hard music fans, hard-core gig attendees, festival fanatics, but most importantly so do they. However this performance at the infamous Glastonbury Festival does mark something of a milestone as it’s been their first gig amongst the mainstream masses since the late Taylor Hawkins was the rocking to excess with them.Last time the Foo’s took the Pyramid stage was in 2017. Anyone remember Dave’s infamous, yet utterly hilarious F-word 🤣 speech song (whatever)?Anyway this time they performed with new drummer John Fresse, and this is the first time I’ve seen them live with him.Seriously, he’s amazing. That plus Dave’s daughter Violet took to the stage to perform a rendition of Show Me How. She’s definitely following in the family business of rock ‘n’ roll alright.Safe to say that the Foo Fighters future is looking rock and roll as it’s always been. They give it the best 👌
New York/Aussie artist and all round talented performing supremo, Luna Kat has released her latest single, ‘Anxiety’, and is one that can be added to your playlist.
Music Monday: SCOTT MATTHEWS releases daring new electronica single ‘New Skin’
New Skin, one of the news singles from Scott Matthews album of the same name. It’s almost four and a half minutes long and is a relaxing, melodic, electronic, soulful sweep from start to finish. As you would expect, Scott’s vocals are completely smooth and captivating to the ear and are filled with emotion from the first note.
Both happy and surprised to have had him on this. If you’re a reader of rock music magazine, Kerrang, you’ll no doubt be familiar with his photography work.
Saturday Special: In Conversation With… Paul Harries
Say Hi to Paul Harries, a renowned music photographer who has worked extensively in the music scene now over two decades. He has photographed many of the artists whose music adorns your playlist. He even hung out with Corey from Slipknot in a field, as part of a photo session. Paul’s interest started around the time when musical greats such as Adam Ant and Sixiousie Sioux began making their mark on the music scene.
In that time Paul has even dabbled in making music videos with friends who are also film-makers, and apparently, it’s not that different from directing a photo-session. Within the last five years, he has curated his own exhibition displaying his images from his collection of Slipknot. And it was also ten years ago he took part in another exhibition in which he displayed his work alongside five other photographers including Andy Willsher. Paul Harries’s work can be seen in the rock magazine, Kerrang.
“I THINK I WAS MOSTLY INFLUENCED BY MUSICIANS WHO HAVE A DEFINITE “IMAGE” AND MY DESIRE TO CAPTURE THAT ON FILM”
When I was doing a Q&A with this guy I had no idea that he originally lived in the same region as me.
Factory worker, Carpet salesman, Car cleaner, retail work and window fitter, even a stint as a rock musician, it seems there’s not a job that writer/director and screen writer Andrew David Barker has not had. With no past experience in the literature world Andrew put pen to paper and began teaching himself how to write a fiction piece of storytelling.
A review I did of a band from Taiwan. In all fairness they’re really good.
Artist: No Party for Cao Dong
Same Old Same Old is the new single by Taiwan rock band, No Party for Cao Dong and by the sound of it it’s already had a great response since a livestream on RPG. Same Old has a soothing, 70’s sounding melodic rhythm to it and along with its lyrics creates the perfect tranquil music.
As We Come Out of Lockdown Can we be Sure That Those Most in Need Are Getting the Best?
Like everybody else during the lockdown, and when I wasn’t at work, I spent quite a bit of time watching programmes on TV. Basically, anything that could maintain my interest for more than fifteen minutes, well let’s face it, as with many other people, there was not exactly a huge amount of anything else that I could do was there.
