On The TV… Claire Richards

Only just finished watching Claire Richards (former Steps front-woman) sing her new single These Wings on the TV, I’m just going to say now that even though I’ve never been a fan of hers I have to confess I liked her tonight. These Wings is quite a heartfelt song that definitely has that drive to it as it gathers momentum not long after it starts. Wings is one of those type of songs where it carries emotions and has that intimate feel to it. As a singer all I’ll say is that, despite not being a fan, she is quite talented and can hit the high notes required for such a track. On the whole it had a stage musical feel and added a bit more energy and power performance,  also it was nice to see Claire perform with a collective of musical individuals who weren’t steps.

Also on the sofa providing banter and gossip were former James Bond actress Judi Dench (the 90’s M), Cuckoo star Greg Davies, Kenneth Branagh and boxer Anthony Joshua

Jeff Goldblum on The Graham Norton Show

Hollywood legend, well in my opinion anyway, Jeff Goldblum played on TV a few minutes ago with another singing great Imelda May. Now I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of jazz/swing/rockability even at the best of times even I have to admit that their sound tonight was quite good. Straighten Up and Fly Right. has got a contemporary feel to it. I think Jeff may have performed live on TV before, can’t remember, but when you put these two together they’re like lemon-tea and honey, they just go together like that. The song was on Jeff Goldblum’s debut album The Capitol Studios Sessions, ironically Imelda’s also on the album. Also on the sofa were scream-queen Jamie-Lee Curtis, Gary Barlow and the man behind Blackadder and Bean Rowan Atkinson.

Years & Years on The Graham Norton Show

Olly and his band band are back after three years with their new single If You’re Over Me and it has has upbeat feel to it, sounds quite chirpy to. I’ll be openly honest about it and say that I wasn’t overly impressed by it as I prefer his earlier work such as Desire and King Under Your Control. The performance itself wasn’t too bad as it was basically Olly singing and dancing with 5-6 backing dancers and his choice of dress was a bit intriguing. Black and yellow. As an artist he’s got a really good voice and wide vocal range and it suits his style of music. Unfortunately I won’t joining the masses to download this track anytime soon.

Also on the sofa was the entire cast of the hit Ocean’s 8 which was a laugh and minute. Seriously, it was. If they weren’t laughing they were talking, more than Graham I think.

Florence and The Machine on The Graham Norton Show

Just been watching a rerun of Florence and The Machine with their new song Hunger and it’s brilliant. Florence Welch, the band’s front-woman has got an incredibly soothing voice which just cut right through the song and the melody, and the line ‘We all have a hunger’ is a cleverly written lyric. Florence just seems to be able to glide effortlessly around the stage whilst performing in an almost ghost-like way (or like a dalek pending on your preferred descriptions). All I can say is that as a performer she has an earthal quality whenever she performs and has a full-bodied voice. Just incredible

Liam Payne on The Graham Norton Show

Just been watching former One Direction-er Liam Payne perform his single Familiar, and I have to admit even though it was ever-so-slightly addictive I couldn’t say that it did anything for me. Liam had a mixture of male and female backing dancers on-stage with him, unfortunately I felt as though they didn’t do much to make the performance any better. I admit that the slight R’N’B Latino sound did make it sound interesting but sadly I won’t be rushing to buy this from the shops or download it anytime soon, or ever. I openly admit I was never a fan of One Direction so this is to some degree bias-ness, the rest of it is that I sadly grew out of teeny pop music years ago
