This was the first time ever covering an Easter Sunday gig, and in all fairness, it was actually worth it as three incredible bands were on. This was the last gig of the Church Of The Cosmic Skull; Is Satan Real tour.
Haggard Cat Bothday Present, of just H.C.B.P for short is a two-man band consisting of only Matt Reynolds and Tom Marsh. Now together these two were amazing to watch and their performance was quite lively and played some fresh material and ended their set on their newly released single, The Patriot which actually sounds quite good. During their performance, the main room was getting filled with many rock fans alike, and HCBP are defiantly two guys whom you should keep both your eyes and ears pealed for. Vodun are just fantastic to watch and one of the best ways to describe them is rock combined with Afro, soul and Psych with the vocal talents equal to that of Aretha Franklin or Etta James. Seriously her voice can just cut through and entire crowd she’s that good. That is pretty much how to describe them and even their on-stage presence alone will leave you very intrigued to say the least. These guys even have their own individual stage names as part of their band image. Vodun are packed with energy and fresh tribal-rock sounding music and they ended their set on one of their newest songs Possession/Loa’s Kingdom, and what a belter of a tune. Their music is as packed with energy as their performances. Just incredible and by this point the room was packed with people.
Now in terms of stage presence you could easily be forgiven if your first thoughts were that they looked like a random bunch all dressed in white. But no, they’re another great band with some great songs and on-stage presence that will actually leave you wanting more. Even their introduction is attention grabbing stuff and like something out of a 70’s sci-fi film. These are definitely one of both the biggest and hottest bands to be checking out for this year. C.O.T.C.S are definitely one of the ones to be watching out for so keep your ears pricked.
