Jake Shears on The Graham Norton Show

Just finished watching the former Scissor Sister front-man, Jake Shears sing his new single Creep City and all I’ll say is that his performance has something very Moulin Rogue about it. Creep City has a slight retro sound to it and uses a nice addition of jazz-sax and has a happy upbeat vibe about it. I could happily listen to this a few times over and not tire of it. Jake Shears in one of those guys who definitely brings new term to the meaning ‘Showman’ and has got the voice to match it. Move over Hugh Jackman, I think you’ve got a serious contender for the Greatest Showman crown.

Leon Bridges on The Graham Norton Show

Now I’ve only ever heard Leon Bridges a few times in passing conversation but never actually heard any material from this guy until now. What a voice!!! Seriously this man has an incredible voice which is absolutely soothing and packed with melody. Beyond is one of those songs is the perfect blend of smooth R&B and soul with a little bit of acoustic. I’ve caught a performance of his on TV a few moment ago with his band and he just oozes charisma and is hypnotic to say the least. Leon has just got a loving voice which unless you’re a fan of Soul it’d take you a while to truly appreciate. Seriously, America definitely knows how to create some great artists.

Joan Armatrading on The Graham Norton Show

Just been enjoying the musical legend that is Joan Armatrading on TV a few moments ago singing her latest single I Like it When We’re Together. This is one woman with two fantastic talents; a soulful voice and a guitar, and knows how to combine the two to perfection. As an artist she is a pleasure to watch and can’t get bored of her. She is one of those artists who need very few people with her on the stage as her presence and performance alone are enough to command an entire crowd’s attention. Her new single of from her new album Not Too Far Away. and I’m solely tempted to buy a copy. Joan is someone who’s music I’ve enjoyed listening to growing up and she just does no wrong. She amongst one of the top musical talents that this country has produce

Also on the sofa were Vanessa Kirby along with Josh Brolin, David Beckham and Ryan Gosling who provided some jokes and gossip, as well as beefcake/man-candy (oh come on you were thinking it as well)

SuRie & Jess Glynne on The Graham Norton Show

Just realised that I hadn’t blogged for a while for here’s my latest. Caught a performance by our Eurovision entry, SuRie, the other day performing her song Storm, and I have to admit that even though it was a very good song with edge, coolness and that Eurovision sound to it unfortunately I didn’t find it that favourable and found it to be somewhat forgettable if I’m going to be honest with you. For me, a lot of this is that a lot of the songs that you hear on the Eurovision Song Contest just seem to be about love, which if I’m going to be honest just seem to get a little bland after a while. But that’s just me with my opinion but feel free to disagree, but in a respectable manner if you please.

Now I haven’t heard from this lovely lady in a while but was glad I saw her perform again, and she’s got what I can only describe as a power-house of a voice. I’ll Be There, the new song by Jess Glynne just an incredible song in it’s own right and one that I just can’t get bored of even if I was to listen to it on repeat for 30+ minutes. Though she hasn’t been in the music scene for many years she’s slowly gaining momentum and she’s got one of the most incredible voices since Adele and Etta James. She’s that good. Jess is a whirlwind of a talent and her performance alone are magnetic. All you need is just her, a few musicians and she can quite simply command the stage.

Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa on The Graham Norton Show

Caught Dua Lipa performing her new single One Kiss with DJ Superstar Calvin Harris, and all I’ll say this this; Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris are a pair of musical geniuses quite simply waiting to happen and One Kiss is just fantastic. Their performance was abstract, incredible and upbeat to say the least, also it was on a raised-curved platform with an LED-led background and it was just the two of them. One Kiss is one of those singles that you cannot get bored of even if you play it a few times over, and I’ve heard it on the radio a few times and fell in love with it first time round.

Kylie Minogue on The Graham Norton Show

Finished watching a certain Australian pop princess on the TV, that certain pop princess was non other than Kylie Minogue. Ms Minogue was singing her new single Stop Me From Falling and I have to say that made brilliant listening pleasure and sounded completely different from anything she’s done in the past. If anyone’s ever heard much of her back catalogue of music will know of her sound, Falling had a rich gospel tone to it and had a slight upbeat folk/country-like back-beat to it as well. If anything Kylie’s not lost any of her touch, or her voice for that matter. Welcome back Ms Minogue

Keale Settle on The Graham Norton Show

Just thought I’d take a moment to mention the amazing Keale Settle who I saw perform her amazing single This Is Me on TV a couple of weeks ago (yes, that long ago). It’s taken from the hit film The Greatest Showman, which I’ve yet to even see but it stars one of my favourite actors, Hugh Jackman. Anyways, her performance was fantastic to say the least and it was like watching an actual West End performance but all crammed into just a few minutes. Keale’s just got this beautiful voice which grabs your attention with very little effort and apparently she’s also in the film playing the part of the Bearded Lady, Lettie Lutz. If you ever get the chance watch it on YouTube or just watch out for her in the film. Even though this is the only song I’ve heard from her I’d happily rate her as an artist. Now is it just me or are the Americans churning out some really good artists these days?

Paloma Faith on The Graham Norton Show

Just heard Paloma Faith sing her new song Till I’m Done on the TV right now, and all I can say is that it was amazing, and it’s off her new album The Architect. Though I haven’t heard much off it if this single is anything to go by I’m solely tempted to buy it. Till I’m Done sounds different from anything she’s done since Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful? It’s a seamless mixture of disco, rock, soul and R&B and is sounds energetic. And always Paloma’s voice is just incredible. As a recording artist she’s one of those where it’s always 2-3 years (or more) between each album yet when you hear the new material it just makes the wait worthwhile. Also, she’s one of those who can command 100% doing very little.

First Aid Kit on The Graham Norton Show

Just seen and heard one of the most amazing bands to come out of Sweden since Roxette, Abba and Mans Zermalow. They’re a duo called First Aid Kit and they’ve performed their debut single, It’s a Shame, on Graham Norton and I have to say it was both abstract and contained some very soothing melodies and Klara Soderberg and Johanna Soderberg who form the duo have got the most amazing voices you’re ever going to hear. The performance itself looked like it was from a 70’s edition of TOTP, but either way it was worth watching and the song itself is one of those that you could listen to again and again. It’s a Shame is from their debut album Ruins. Also on the sofa were US actor Tom Hanks to talk about his new film with Meryl Streep and British MBA Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua and GoT actress Maisie Williams. All in all some great laughs, including the time Tom Hanks farted onset with Paul Bettany

Tom Chaplin on The Graham Norton Show

Been watching Tom Chaplin, he of Keane fame, singing his newest single Midnight Mass on Graham Norton on BBC1, and I openly admit it wasn’t all that bad listening. Now I have to admit that I didn’t actually recognise him at first co’s of image change. The performance itself was quite good as it was stripped back and though there were some musicians the main bits were between him and the pianist. To some degree his song sounds quite to listen to but it didn’t quite hit the high-notes that he could’ve done which is a shame co’s if you’ve ever heard his past material he’s actually capable of doing so. Non-the-less he’s got a really nice, soothing voice and melodic vocal tones which fit the mood of the song. Anyways, all that can be said now is Merry Christmas
