Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend: Perth

Over in Swansea on the second day of Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend Wales saw its enormous share of festival madness, oh you lucky people. Ed Sheeran opened up the day with Don’t, A-Team, Blood Stream, Happier and Perfect but to name several. Now what’s very likeable about Ed is his very down-to-earth nature when he performs as it’s just him and the fans, no manic in your faceness. This man is literally a one-man-band as he’s armed with just a guitar and a loop-station. Though he did take a few moments to explain what that actually was. All that I can say is the he’s got a soothing voice that just pierces straight through the music and if anyone can come second to Sam Smith in the vocal department it’s this guy.

There were other performances throughout the day by Sigrid. Seriously for a woman who’s not been around the music scene that long she’s definitely making a huge name for herself. Swedish duo First Aid Kit were an incredible breath of fresh air and were simply incredible. At this rate you’d have to give Sweden some serious credit for the artists they’ve produced over the past 5 years.

Over in the 6Music Recommends Stage new artist Hollie Cooke put on an incredible set and is someone to keep a look out for in the very near future. I detect great things from her. Towards the end of the afternoon and going into the evening our very own Emilie Sande performed in Swansea and reminded everyone of the powerhouse of a performer she is. Whenever she’s on stage remember to never underestimate her. Sam Smith, the only male artist I can think of who can equal her vocal talents ended the night and reminded us why one of the best performers we’ve got today. Sam performed his amazing hits including Money on my Mind, Lay Me Down, Too Good at Goodbyes, I’m Not the Only One. Seriously, this guy got the best vocals in town and that’s not something you can say everyday.

Up in Perth Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds headlined the night, and my god what a performance. This man’s a musical genius and he came from one of the biggest bands of the 90’s. The former Oasis front-man, and as some might argue the better half of the Gallagher brothers (some might say, pardon the pun) treated the Scottish crowds and fans alike to some amazing songs. It’s a Beautiful World, Holy Mountain, Fort Knox, In the Heat of The Movement, Dream On, Little by Little, The Importance of Being Idle, She Taught me How to Fly, Half the World Away, Wonderwall and my own favourite ever, AKA… What a Life. That’s the one song that would be hard to tire of. Noel Gallagher is quite arguably one of the musical/song writing geniuses of both our time and generation and tonight’s performance proves just that.

Ed Sheeran @ Glastonbury 2017

Everyone’s favourite ginger Hip-Hop rock-star Ed Sheeran took to the stage tonight both debuting and headlining the main stage at Glastonbury tonight. Considering that this man was a complete unknown more than 5 years ago he’s come a long way. He Just comes on stage full of energy and is just electrifying to watch as he opened his set with Castle On The Hill. A one-man band Ed treated the crowds to his hit songs including Bloodstream, Galway Girl, Lego House, Eraser and Take It Back/Superstition during his made great use of his rap skills and reminded everyone why he’s a one-man band star in his own right. Seriously this guy’s talents know no bounds, also it’s just him on-stage. The music continued with more songs such as I’m A Mess, Photograph in which he and the crowd sang together. For one of his songs, Nancy Mulligan, he invited a small folk quartette which was really good. Had a an Irish-folk feel to it. Ed continued his set with the incredible Thinking Out Loud, Sing and Shape Of You. He ended both his set and the night with his self-written debut hit You Need Me I Don’t You after by which point the adrenaline was just oozing from all areas. Seriously, Ed ,dude, promise us that’ll you’ll return to Glastonbury at some point. YOU ROCK!!! Live link courtesy of Huw Stephen, Jo Whiley and Shaun Keaveny
Considering that this was it debut it was amazing, electrifying and pure magic, and it’s safe to say we all witnessed something purely incredible. Even whilst wearing the infamous rainbow flag.
Also Barry Gibb, the eldest of the Gibb brothers and of The Bee Gees performed to a massive crowd during the infamous Legends Slot. He played their infamous hit track Stayin Alive which is guaranteed to get the entire crowd moving, even the stage crew took to the photography pit and joined in.
Sadly there won’t be any Glastonbury next due to it’s fallow year, so see you all again in 2019

Ed Sheeran, man on a (musical) mission

As of this week British artist Ed Sheeran has managed to smash a completely new bunch of records all with his current album Divide (the divide symbol), here’s how

. It’s the fastest selling artist by a man, ever

. All songs from the album have gone into the Top 20

. This now makes him the 3rd fastest selling artist behind Adele and Oasis

Not bad at all for someone who hit the big time with only his second album, X. This is why I’ve always referred to him as the second male-Adele (Sam Smith being the other). On another note if we’re keeping to mathematics as album names some insiders have suggested = and -. Or as some others’ have suggested TT (pie)

Good on you Sheeran, let’s see how long you can keep the charts de-Cowellised

Ed Sheeran on The Graham Norton Show

Currently watching Ed Sheeran perform his new single ‘Castle On The Hill’ on The Graham Norton Show on BBC1 right now. What a single, what a comeback and You Need Me, I Don’t Need You seems so long ago now. Just Ed, his guitar and voice and that’s pretty much all you need, seriously, what more do you need. I like how the song switches from slow-pace in the verses to fast verses fast-pace on the chorus. Castle On The Hill is on his new album, Divide (the actual divide symbol). Also in a twist of revelation there’s a guy on the Red Chair called James who just so happens to have been his best mate a school. What are the chances of that!!
