Kungs (ft Ephemerals): I Feel So Bad
Anything by Adele needs no introduction as anything by her speaks for itself, not a huge fan of BMTH (Bring Me The Horizon) but I admit the track sounded alright and I’ve never heard of Kungs till now but this track was a beauty. The 1st and 3rd I’d definitely recommend for a drive-time selection.
Not long finished watching Disclosure headline the main stage (alongside The Foals) at the Reading (R+L) Festival via the red button service, it was a great hour spent watching them. It was amazing listening to them perform the hits from both their Settle and Caracal albums including When a Fire Starts to Burn, Holding On including one of their recent new singles Boss. They were joined on-stage by new artists Brandon Reilly for another new song Moving Mountains which sounded fantastic, seriously that guy’s got some vocals on him. They ended their set on their hit debut track Latch which is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Over on the NME/Radio 1 Stage American duo Twenty One Pilots performed set their and I have to admit that I’ve never really heard any of their music till now; I have missed a lot. I have to say they did an impressive cover of House of Pain’s Jump Around and got to crowd surf.
Though I’ve said it before I’ll say it again; this is one reason why BBC3 was brilliant as a TV CHANNEL!!!
I found myself listening to Christine & The Queens single ‘Titled’ on Radio 1 a few minutes ago, the more I hear her song the more I just fall in love with it. I admit I quite like the parts where she sings in her native French for a few seconds, it adds more depth to the song. I’m definitely going to get her album over the next two weeks; don’t try stopping me (haha). Bit bummed co’s I completely missed her play at Glastonbury. Either way, Christine, you rock!!!

I listened to Rihanna’s latest track ‘Sledgehammer’ which is the theme tune to the upcoming Star Trek film Star Trek: Beyond earlier on today and I really like it. I’ve heard it on BBC Radio 1 numerous times and Rihanna just seems to get it each time you listen to her voice. The lyrics are just haunting and her voice is just captivating and the composition of the song works perfectly. Now I admit I’m not a huge Star Trek fan but I’m tempted to see the film after hearing her song.

Iggy Azalea
“Team”
Yet another great song by the lovely singer from down under. Team hits all the right notes and both the lyrics and tune become an amazing hook. This latest offering is well and truly undeniable and offers new levels of raw energy and just makes great listening. Once again Iggy proves that she’s an independent woman and that she knows exactly how to handle herself. This is slowly starting to grow on me and I enjoy listening to it.

“No”
I’ve heard this a couple of times and unfortunately I just overly impressed as it seems like she’s gone too much into a different style of music just a little too soon. I admit I’m not a huge fan of her and I did like “All About That Bass” and “Marvin Gaye” duet with Charlie Puth. I know it has some melody and is a little bit catchy but unfortunately I just didn’t get it. As an artist I like her but I just didn’t favour this song.

“Tin Foil Boy”
I heard this on Radio 1 a couple of days ago and I was deeply hooked within 1 minute of listening, it was even ‘track of the day’. Tin Foil Boy demonstrates Jamie’s ability as both a singer and songwriter. It’s got the right pitch, the right hook and the melody to go with it. Whenever I hear this is just sounds as raw and edgy as the last time. Packed with the right amount of angst and anger and the song’s just great to listen to, can’t get bored easily with this.
One Republic opened the second day of the weekend on the mainstage kickstarting another day of live music presented by Scott Mills, Annie Mac, Cel Spellman and Greg James. With coverage featuring live perfomances by The Last Shadow Puppets (as well as an interview), Alessia Cara and The Weeknd. DJ/Producer Alesso treated everyone to an impressive set in the In New Music We Trust stage, and what a performance it was. There was live radio coverage of Iggy Azalea which unfortunately had to be cut short due to strong language. Pity, it was on my favourite song. There were new videos from Nick Jonas for his new single ‘Close’ with Tove Lo; Tinie Tempah & Zara Larsson’s ‘Girls Like’ and Jake Bugg ‘Gimme The Love’. There was also a special video from Taylor Swift featuring Greg James (lucky beggar) for her single Blank Space. Panic At The Disco did an amazing cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, whilst shirtless (I kid you not). However all attention goes to Coldplay who stole the show as the headlining act closing the weekend event with an amazing set on BBC4.
It’s first day of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Exeter and it’s been great so far. With live streams presented by Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Nick Grimshaw, Alice Levine and 1Xtra’s Mistajam providing backstage coverage from the BBC Introducing stage. Nick Jonas opened the events on the main stage. Current highlights have included live, energetic performances by Slaves, Chvrches, Paloma Faith who even did her hit duet with Sigma. There were new videos from Biffy Clyro of their new single ‘Wolves of Winter’ and Desiinger with his new video ‘Panda’. Both videos looked pretty good. There was a live streamed set by The Hunna on the BBC Introducing stage which unfortunately had to be cut after 15 seconds due to bad language. Pity really, they did seem quite good on first appearances. Mumford & Sons however stole the show as the headliners on the main stage over on BBC4.
As a dedicated music and festival fan I personally am disappointed that I could only access most live performances, backstage gossip and interviews via the red button service. This is what was great about BBC3 when it was a TV channel as they showed over 6 hours of non-stop coverage. The BBC made a huge mistake taking the channel off the air, they should reverse their decision even if on a temporary basis. As a channel you knew where it was. No music fan should have to rely solely on the Radio 1 website or red button service for coverage. And they definitely shouldn’t have to wait till 22:30 just to catch that one televised act.
