On The Radio: Bruno Mars ft Cardi B

I’ve heard this quite a bit on the radio recently, and seen the video on sky TV music channels a couple of times and my god it’s officially grown on me, BIG TIME!!! Finesse (Remix) featuring Cardi B which has also been nicknamed The 90’s Song is just fantastic listening and for anyone who grew up listening to hip-hop and R&B in the early-mid 90’s this song is a direct through back to that era. For me this might as well be my early childhood memories played back to me on the radio as it’s a complete dead-ringer for that era. The energy, fast-paced lyrics, everything, seriously it’s all there. Bruno Mars has got one of those voices that just gets your attention from the moment he opens his mouth, and I openly admit that although I’m not a huge fan of his he has done some musical gems. Cardi B has got a fast-paced, energetic voice which you probably can’t help but sing/mime to if you can keep up the pace, in many ways her vocal talents remind me of the amazing late Lisa Left-Eye Lopes. Seriously America I don’t know how you’re even doing it but you are churning out some incredible artists, please, please, please, please, please keep it up

🙂

On The Radio: Faithless

Heard this a while back on the radio whilst driving, and I haven’t heard played on the radio for some time either yet it’s always a firm favourite and always a joy to listen to. It’s one of those songs that you cannot fault. Insomnia by dance-trio Faithless. I can remember when this track first came out in the mid-late 90’s and have loved it ever since and no matter much it gets played I just can get bored of it. Insomnia is one of those dance-tracks that helped define a moment, not just for the group who made it, but also for the UK music scene as it helped carve the path for other dance artists to. Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo, I’ll forever salute you for making one of the best dance anthems of all time EVER!!1

B.J and The Chicago Kid on the radio

Listening to another as yet amazing R&B record on the radio, Radio 1 to be precise, and what a tune. It’s called Angels/Your Love and the guys’ voice on this song is both soothing and melodic and just seem to cut straight through and is on the Hottest Records on 1Xtra at the moment. If you ever get the chance check it out, it’s worth a listen. Once again America I thank you for some get music

THEY on the radio

Just caught a new track on the radio, literally a moment ago. It’s called Truth Be Told by American R&B duo Dante Jones and Drew Love, also know as They. All I can say it that it sounded amazing, and I’d definitely listen again. Once again America I salute you for giving us another great new band/duo of beautiful taste. The Truth Be Told is on their debut album Nu Religion: Hyena. Should be in the Top Ten at least.

Rag’n’Bone Man On The Radio

Been hearing a lot from this guy recently, especially his song Human which is absolutely awesome listening pleasure. Radio 1’s been playing it a lot lately, and I won’t be tiring of of it any time soon. He’s only 32 he’s got an amazing, powerful, gospel voice that has a very rich sound to it. Human is a great song, I love it and the lyric “I’m only human after all” just goes round your head and is fantastic. Not bad for a guy who won the Brits Critics Choice Award

High Contrast On The Radio

Heard the new single from British producer High Contrast on Radio 1 last night, it’s featured in the new soundtrack to T2 Trainspotting2. It’s called Mouthwash, and I was completely hooked after 20 seconds, that’s how much I loved it. As far as soundtracks go it’s highly energised and is in the same vein as Underworld’s Born Slippy. If you ever get the chance to just listen to it, you won’t be disappointed. It’s even been noted as Hottest Record in The World on Radio 1

Bastille On The Radio

Caught the new song by Bastille, Blame, on Radio 1  whilst on the road this afternoon which sounded really good. Sounds a bit different from some of their other songs and definitely one I would listen to again and again. Lead singer Dan Smith’s voice sounds great as always and just cuts straight through the sound.

Lower Than Atlantis (& co) on The Radio

Found myself listening to Had Enough by Lower Than Atlantis, Ain’t Got Far To Go by Jess Glynne on Radio 1 on the way back from work, and I have to admit, though I’m not a huge fan of Atlantis I found myself enjoying it. Has a mature sound to it. Ain’t Got Far To Go I’ve heard a few times already and already like it. Also there was a special track by Declan McKenna who I mentioned in a previous post. The track was called The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home and though I only heard 20 seconds worth it sounded good.

Christine & The Queens On The Radio

I found myself listening to Christine & The Queens single ‘Titled’ on Radio 1 a few minutes ago, the more I hear her song the more I just fall in love with it. I admit I quite like the parts where she sings in her native French for a few seconds, it adds more depth to the song. I’m definitely going to get her album over the next two weeks; don’t try stopping me (haha). Bit bummed co’s I completely missed her play at Glastonbury. Either way, Christine, you rock!!!

Note: For those  who have seen it I did mentioned her in an earlier post. Christine & The Queens on The Graham Norton Show

Rihanna On The Radio

I listened to Rihanna’s latest track ‘Sledgehammer’ which is the theme tune to the upcoming Star Trek film Star Trek: Beyond earlier on today and I really like it. I’ve heard it on BBC Radio 1 numerous times and Rihanna just seems to get it each time you listen to her voice. The lyrics are just haunting and her voice is just captivating and the composition of the song works perfectly. Now I admit I’m not a huge Star Trek fan but I’m tempted to see the film after hearing her song.
